Laser Beam Delivery Components

Beam Polarizer

Overview

Haas Laser Technologies’ beam polarizers enable fine control over the polarization state of the laser beam in your optical path. Commonly used for process tuning, diagnostic setups, or in systems requiring polarization filtering, these assemblies integrate seamlessly with Haas’ modular beam delivery components. Each unit is designed to hold a thin-film polarizer (TFP) optic and rotate precisely to dial in the desired polarization angle.

When used with a quarter waveplate, a linearly polarized beam is converted to a circularly polarized beam when the axis of the quarter waveplate is rotated 45 degrees to the incoming linearly polarized beam.

Applications

Haas polarizer mounts support high-power operation and are compatible with common thin-film polarizers, making them suitable for both production-grade laser systems and optical R&D platforms.

Laser beam polarizers, also known as polarization rotators or TFP mounts, are used in a wide range of laser systems where control over the beam's polarization state is essential. These components are frequently deployed in:

  • Laser Cutting and Welding: Adjusting polarization can influence absorption characteristics in different materials, improving edge quality and efficiency.

  • Measurement and Diagnostics: Polarizers are often used in test setups to filter or analyze specific polarization states for beam profiling or optical power measurements.

  • Micromachining and Engraving: Sensitive applications benefit from polarization control to maintain consistency and minimize undesired reflections or heat input.

  • Research and Prototyping: In laboratory environments, TFP mounts offer an adjustable method for tuning beam polarization during experimental setups or system alignment.

Selecting a Part Number

Haas polarizer assemblies are defined by three key parameters:

  1. Aperture Size
Available in 19 mm and 25 mm series.
Choose the size that best fits your beam diameter and optical system requirements.

  2. Polarizer Cartridge
The optical element is ordered separately as a removable cartridge (POL-19 or POL-25).
Select the cartridge based on your laser’s wavelength and power handling needs.

  3. Mounting Housing
Choose between two standard housings based on the angle of incidence:

    • 0° Incidence (PCH-XX-0): For standard applications with normal beam entry.

    • 4° Incidence (PCH-XX-4): To reduce back reflections into the source.
