Laser Beam Delivery Components

Spatial Filter/Beam Expander

Overview

The 38mm Spatial Filter Beam Expander combines spatial filtering and beam expansion into a single optical module. This design improves beam uniformity by removing high-frequency aberrations using a pinhole and objective lens assembly. The result is a cleaner, more collimated beam ideal for high-precision laser applications.

Designed with an integrated adjustable pinhole stage and precision alignment mounts, this system simplifies setup while maintaining excellent optical performance. It is commonly used in research and industrial environments where beam quality and stability are critical.

Applications

Spatial filter beam expanders are essential when beam quality is critical to the performance of downstream optics or processes. By removing higher-order modes and spatial noise, they ensure a clean, symmetric beam profile that improves focus quality and processing precision. These systems are commonly used in research and industrial settings where beam uniformity cannot be compromised.

In precision micromachining, spatial filtering improves cut quality by eliminating hot spots that can lead to uneven material removal. In optical metrology and interferometry, it ensures a pure TEM₀₀ mode, enabling high fringe contrast and accurate measurements. In nonlinear optics, such as frequency doubling or mixing, spatial filtering improves conversion efficiency by providing a smooth, Gaussian beam. These systems are also valuable in laser marking, semiconductor inspection, and scientific research labs, where high beam quality directly translates into better results and repeatability.

Selecting a Spatial Filter Beam Expander

To specify the correct Spatial Filter Beam Expander (SFBE), select from the following three parameters:

  1. Pinhole Diameter

    • Choose from: 100 µm, 150 µm, or 200 µm.

  2. Expansion Ratio

    • Options include: 1x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x, and 3x.

    • Higher ratios produce a larger output beam diameter, useful for reducing divergence or tailoring beam size to your optics.

    • 1x models are ideal for beam cleanup without changing beam diameter.

  3. Wavelength

    • Standard wavelength is 10.6 µm, designed for CO₂ lasers.

    • Custom coatings may be available upon request for alternative wavelengths.

Alignment Targets

Alignment targets make laser beam setup and optical alignment fast and repeatable. Available for all Haas LTI beam delivery sizes, they simplify system setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Product Features

Compact, Drop-In Design

Built into a compact and rugged housing designed for integration into 38 mm beam delivery systems. Optimized for CO₂ lasers (10.6 µm) and compatible with standard Haas optical mounts and tubes.

Improved Beam Quality & Uniformity

Removes the outer halo and unwanted energy from the beam profile, delivering a cleaner, more uniform beam. This ensures smaller heat-affected zones and more consistent cutting, welding, and drilling results.

Rail-Mounted Optics for Fast Alignment

Optical components are mounted on an advanced rail system, allowing quick and accurate alignment. The 3-axis lens and pinhole mounts make fine-tuning simple and repeatable.
