Applications

Shutters are widely used in industrial, medical, and scientific applications to ensure controlled operation of high-power lasers. They offer a dependable solution for beam blocking when machine access, servicing, or idle states require the laser to be inactive.

Laser Cutting Systems
Used to block the laser beam during setup, tool changes, or interlock conditions. By stopping the beam at the source, the shutter helps prevent stray energy from reaching downstream optics or components.

Laser Welding Cells
Mounted directly to the laser output bezel, these shutters provide a reliable means of halting the beam when the system is idle, in fault state, or during service operations. This helps protect equipment and maintain controlled operating conditions in automated welding cells.

Laboratory and R&D Environments
Well-suited for research labs, test benches, and prototyping setups where beams need to be selectively opened or closed. Shutters allow researchers to block the beam path quickly without disconnecting optics, streamlining system reconfiguration and troubleshooting.

Selecting a Part Number

To configure the correct external laser shutter for your system, choose from the options below based on your application’s laser wavelength, power, and integration needs:

Step 1: Select an Aperture Size
Available in 19 mm, 25 mm and 38 mm series.
Choose the aperture based on your beam diameter, with 1.5x margin recommended to avoid clipping.

Step 2: Select Blade Material
Choose the shutter blade material based on your laser wavelength and power. Different coatings are available to optimize reflectivity, thermal handling, and durability.

Step 3: Choose Power Management Options
Options range from air-cooled designs to higher-capacity water-cooled versions, depending on your power level and integration needs.

Step 4: Define Detection Requirements
Select the level of position monitoring or interlock feedback appropriate for your system. Options include simple open/closed sensing, redundant sensors for critical applications, or external control when system interlocks are managed elsewhere.

Step 5: Add Optional Features
Consider additional options such as thermal monitoring (RTD or thermal switch) for temperature feedback, or an alignment diode for low-power beam alignment. These features can enhance usability and system integration when required.

Shutter Interlock

Provides the source of electrical power and I/O controls to open and close Haas LTI Shutters.

Alignment Targets

Alignment targets make laser beam setup and optical alignment fast and repeatable. Available for all Haas LTI beam delivery sizes, they simplify system setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Standard Beam Dump

Standard beam dumps come with either water or air cooling and can handle up to 500 watts.

High Power Beam Dump

High-performance beam dumps safely absorb greater than 500 watts of laser power. Currently available in 38mm and 50mm aperture sizes.
