Protective Aperture

Overview

Haas LTI protective apertures are designed to shield critical beam delivery optics from debris, contamination, and back reflections during laser processing. By creating a physical barrier at the beam exit point, these components help extend the life of downstream optics and maintain system performance in high-throughput or harsh environments.

Each protective aperture includes a precision-machined housing with a fixed-diameter orifice, optimized to match the working aperture of the system. They are easily integrated into standard beam tubes and mounting hardware using the Haas modular beam delivery platform.

Industrial Applications

Protective apertures are widely used in laser cutting applications, especially when processing metals or polymers that generate smoke, dross, or molten debris. Positioned at the end of a beam tube or component, they prevent contaminants from traveling back through the optical path and damaging sensitive components like lenses or optics.

In laser welding systems, protective apertures are commonly used to shield optics from metal vapor or splatter near the weld pool, particularly in automated setups where the laser head is mounted on a robotic arm and exposed to varying conditions.

In additive manufacturing and powder-bed fusion systems, protective apertures help isolate the beam optics from fine powders that can become airborne during part processing or chamber cycling.

Their simple mechanical design makes them ideal for high-duty-cycle environments where uptime and reliability are critical.

Selecting a Part Number

1. Aperture Size

Available in 19 mm and 38mm
Choose the aperture based on your beam diameter, with 1.5x margin recommended to avoid clipping.

2. Optic Diameter

Each aperture size is offered in a 1.0in, 25mm and 1.1in optic diameters. Select the size that matches the optics you plan on using.
